Artist Statement
The Event
“The Encampment was presented in part by the Canadian Association for Community Living (CACL) as a cultural initiative of its 50th anniversary to bring national awareness to the inclusion of people with an intellectual disability…This massive glowing optical artwork was visible to those visiting the work, and also from the National Gallery of Canada, U.S. Embassy, Chateau Laurier and Parliament Hill. It was an installation of exceptional scale.”*
My Contribution
In “The Encampment” project I explored my ideas on the nature of medical institutions. Through research material provided by the organizers and discussions with other creative collaborators, I created a temporary installation expressing my views on the the subject.
